Timeless Wisdom to Gain Resilience, Confidence, and Calmness

With a growing awareness of all things mental health related, Stoicism has emerged as a helpful form of CBT. Having read many books on the subject in recent years, I cannot recommend studying it highly enough. The Little Book Of Stoicism is the ideal starting point for anyone who wants to investigate Stoicism and its history, while also engaging with some practical thoughts and challenges.

In this book, Salzgeber strikes the perfect balance between history, insight and practical application in just about 275 pages. The prose is snappy and to the point. Most of the practises are only two pages, yet they are deeply thought provoking and relevant to modern life.

Popular figures such as Seneca, Epictetus and Marcus Aurelius are introduced, as are concepts such as eudaimonia, living with areté and developing emotional resilience. I particularly liked the concept of the Stoic Happiness Triangle and the Stoic Archer metaphor. A final bonus as I read through this neat little book were the excellent illustrations throughout.

While the book is available in e-book form for a very reasonable price, I would recommend buying a hard copy and marking/highlighting the many insightful passages as you read along. This is a book that you will want to savour.
