Remembering Leonard Cohen: Death of a Legend
It’s hard to believe but it has already been a year since Leonard Cohen left this world. This is a musician that I feel everyone who appreciates good writing should listen to more of. An excellent article on hotpress.com charts Cohen’s career as a poet, writer and musician.
I wrote a post about the title track of his final album earlier this year. Like many of his songs, You Want It Darker to me sounded like pure poetry. I also bought and really enjoyed reading his Book Of Longing poetry collection earlier this year.
Concise But Powerful: 12 Novellas and Short Novels to Read Now
This lovely little list from Signature Reads features two books that I reviewed earlier this year, Andrés Barba’s creepy story Such Small Hands and Megan Hunter’s excellent debut The End We Start From. Short novels and novellas are a perfect way to beat a reading slump. They are also great for passing on or including as a nice simple gift with a birthday card. Read the full list here.
Alternatively, you can check out my list of short but great non-fiction books or my list of addictive audiobooks that can all be finished in just under five hours.
Defining and Overcoming Your Fears
Finally, if you have a moment to spare, I recommend that you watch Tim Ferriss talk honestly about how he turned his life around to become one of the top influential people in the world today.
This Ted Talk video comes with an informative companion piece from Daily Stoic that I think you should read. If you haven’t figured out already, the Daily Stoic website is fast becoming one of my favourites!
