This is a really cool idea that caught my eye on Instagram. Thank you flo_grugel for organising it.
Basically if you are interested in taking part in an international book exchange, all you have to do is email or message myself or flo-grugel or anyone else who is taking part. That person will then send you on a series of messages for you to pass on as your part of the chain.
When I signed on I was give the address of someone else who had signed up. This morning I posted a copy of ‘Alex‘ by Pierre LeMaitre to this address. Even if I don’t get any books back, there is a great thrill in knowing that my book will come through a stranger’s letterbox to give them a pleasant surprise.
A book can be purchased online, either new or secondhand, or you can just take one from your own bookshelf to pass on. Keep the cost low as this is all for fun! The beauty of the system is that you only have to send one book. But you may receive books from different people.
Now all I have to do is sit back and wait for potential surprise books to come through my own letterbox. If they do, it’ll be a lot fun reading other people’s tastes and recommendations. If not, I will still be happy to have spread the love of reading to another part of the world. It’s a win-win.
If you are interested in taking part, you can get in contact with me at:
firstname.lastname@example.org or on Twitter @mrbookchief. I will reply as soon as possible!
